Giving Back This Back-to-School Season
We may spend our days repairing welders, servicing overhead cranes and keeping industrial equipment running, but when it comes to supporting our community, it turns out we’re just as serious about coming together and giving back!
With the new school year right around the corner, families across Calgary are getting ready for back-to-school season.
We know getting ready for a new school year is not always easy. Between backpacks, notebooks, pencils, lunch supplies and everything else on the list, the costs can add up quickly.
So, our Calgary team decided to do something to help.
Throughout August, Kristian Electric held a Back-to-School Donation Drive in support of Mamas for Mamas, collecting school supplies, snacks and other essentials for families in our community.
A Little Friendly Competition for a Good Cause
Of course, we had to make it a little competitive.
Welder Service, Crane Service, Sales & Warehouse, and Admin went head-to-head, earning points based on the items they donated, with a team lunch and bragging rights on the line.
Things got competitive pretty quickly.
Backpacks started piling up. Bags and boxes came through the doors. Our collection area filled with notebooks, pencils, crayons, markers, snacks, juice boxes and just about everything a student might need heading back to school.
As the deadline got closer, the competition picked up and so did the donations.
When the final points were counted, Welder Service officially took the win!
The real result was much bigger.
Together, our Calgary team collected more than 4,200 individual items for Mamas for Mamas.
Our final donation included:
• 19 backpacks
• 12 lunch bags
• 23 water bottles
• 23 pencil cases
• 64 folders
• 77 glue sticks
• 72 erasers
• 42 rulers
• 32 highlighters
• 22 pairs of scissors
• 75 packs of pencils
• 8 packs of pens
• 28 packs of pencil crayons
• 26 packs of crayons
• 18 packs of markers
• 99 notebooks and exercise book packs
• More than 100 packs of snacks, drinks and food items
• 10 Kristian Electric sweaters in four designs
That brings the final total to 4,206 individual items when each item within a pack is counted individually.
Supporting Mamas for Mamas in Calgary
All of the items collected through our Back-to-School Donation Drive were donated to Mamas for Mamas.
Mamas for Mamas is a charitable organization that supports mothers, caregivers and families facing poverty-related barriers. Their work helps connect families with essential resources and support when they need it.
Back-to-school season can bring a long list of additional expenses for families. Backpacks, school supplies, lunches and snacks may be everyday necessities, but together they can put significant pressure on a household budget.
Supporting Mamas for Mamas gave our team an opportunity to help make the start of another school year a little easier for families in our Calgary community.
More Than Cranes and Welders
For more than 60 years, Kristian Electric has supported businesses across Canada with overhead crane services, crane manufacturing, inspections, repairs, welder repair, calibration and industrial equipment solutions.
We take a lot of pride in the work we do, but being part of a community means more than the equipment we service.
It means showing up when we can help.
This time, instead of repairing a welder or getting an overhead crane back up and running, our Calgary team filled backpacks, stocked lunch bags and helped get school supplies and snacks into the hands of local families.
